What is Form I-765 utilized for?
Certain foreign nationals, who are qualified to work in the United States, use Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, to request approval to work. When employing staff members, U.S. employers should ask for evidence of the employee's right to work.
U.S. residents and lawful permanent residents (permit holders) may work without requesting unique authorization. Some nonimmigrants, short-term in nature, might be given work permission upon request from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). However, not all nonimmigrants are eligible for this benefit. Individuals granted work authorization with an accepted Form I-765 get a work permission document. You might also hear this document referred to as:
